Cairopolitan, products rebranding the city

Cairopolitan, products rebranding the city

“Branding the City”, an ambitious idea Ahmed Hefnawy had in mind ever since 2006. First, Cosmopolitan Hotel in downtown inspired Hefnawy with the name “Cairopolitan.” For the next 12 years, his work in the creative industry helped him experiment new ideas and bring the concept to life. As time passed, Hefnawy believed more and more in his project and wanted to take it to the next level.

In July 2018, Hefnawy and Shenawy launched Cairopolitan, the store and art gallery in the heart of Garden City. The gallery has gained much attention and awe. That’s because of its unique theme of telling the story of the Egyptian culture through innovative and practical products.

Products of Egyptian identity

Close your eyes and imagine yourself roaming round the streets of Cairo. Surely there must be a lot of stuff that you come across on your daily life. From the street signs, Metro ticket or even Egyptian street food, your urban experience is rich in small details carved in the back of your head.

The main aim behind Cairopolitan is promoting the Egyptian Identity by reintroducing its special elements. Impressively the artists of Cairopolitan managed to turn those iconic elements to functional products. Those products are significantly relatable to all Egyptians who share the same visual memory regardless their background. Clearly that’s what makes Cairopoltan’s products unique and prominent.

The Egyptian identity was always defined in specific stereotypes, overlooking its rich cultural dimensions. The real spirit of the capital lies in the smallest details along its street life. Therefore, Cairopoltan’s main message is to re brand the small elements while adding a contemporary touch to them.

Furthermore, Cairopolitan products are all made from Egyptian materials by the hands of Egyptian artists and creators. They all collaborate to produce a unique product that is purely Egyptian in every bit.

The city is crying for love and attention, all we must do is look closely to its  elements. We have to say, this new way of documentation is exceptionally impressing. It’s time we paid attention to the smallest details and be proud of our identity.

Over the past year, Cairopolitan’s venue has held many artistic events and workshops. As a contribution to the famous Inktober, Cairopolitan will be holding several illustration workshops. Make sure to follow their page to catch up with the artistic sessions.
