The BigPicture Photo competition started in 2014. On its sixth year, BigPicture encourages photographers from around the world to contribute their work to this competition. That will both celebrate and illustrate the rich diversity of life on Earth and inspire action to protect and conserve it through the power of imagery.

Photographer: Audun Rikardsen was born in 1968, (originally from Steigen in Nordland). Now living in Tromsø, Northern Norway. He has been a nature photographer since 2010.
For me, nature photography is about having fun, remembering special moments, and sharing my fascination of the Arctic coastline’s wildlife and culture, often from new and unusual perspectives.’

2019 Photo Story: Pushing The Limit

Longest Migration
Location: Northern Yukon, Alaska, and the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge
Photographer: Peter Mather is a photojournalist based in Whitehorse, Yukon. His photography focuses on long-form stories about the wildlife, conservation and people of the North. He is a member of the International League of Conservation Photographers and is represented by National Geographic Image Collection and Minden Pictures.

Aquatic Life:

Sea Dragon
Location: Galapagos, Ecuador
Photographer: Pier Mane was born in Italy, now living in Cape Town, South Africa. He fell in love with being underwater and started diving in 1985 at the age of seven! Mane was certified at a Club Med at 12 and became a diving instructor prior to his 18th birthday. He interrupted his diving after college to pursue a career in Oil and Gas Exploration and Production Management. In 2014, when he rented a digital underwater camera from Kathy Church in Grand Cayman and rediscovered his passion for diving and underwater photography. He purchased his own rig, an EM-1, which he really enjoys shooting. He recently won the Up & Coming Underwater Photographer of the Year 2016 title.

Photographer: Piotr Naskrecki was born in Poland, and currently living in Mozambique. He is an entomologist and a research associate with the Museum of Comparative Zoology at Harvard University. Naskrecki is the author of The Smaller Majority.
